ABSTRACT
The knowledge of the documentation of foods in the IKA communities. A research was carried out on the way different common indigenous foods are prepared in the native communities. This research was motivated by the need to preserve the knowledge of indigenous food consumption. The common food consumed by the native people were compiled based on collection during field trips and informants" input. Eventually, about Forty (40) different foods were come upon; the Multimodal theory of Kress and van Leeuwen (1996) was employed to represent these foods by multiple means that include text, image and colour, the names of the foods were rendered in their native and common names and finally, the various and way of consumption of the of the food used including how they could be combined with other foods for desired taste were also documented (in tabular form). Translation is also a major concept in this research as discussions were made concerning the premise of translation of some of these food names from their common names to their native names.
