FLOOD IMPACT ON THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES IN EGOR L.G.A. AND THEIR MANAGERIAL PATTERNS

Summary of Findings

The major findings of this study include:

• Majority of the respondents indicated that their building or property has been flooded in recent times with 25 to 50 percent of the community water source been affected by the flood.
• The major cause of flooding in the area is excess rainfall as reported by the respondents.
• In terms of management, many of the respondents indicated that they use sandbags as a flood protection measure
• All of the respondents indicated that the underlying cause of the flood is poor drainage
• The coping strategies recommended by majority of the respondents is construction of drainage while others recommended relocation from the flood-prone areas.
