ABSTRACT
The study examines the macroeconomic determinants of performance of insurance companies in Nigeria over the period 2017 - 2021, using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and panel data regression techniques. A causal research design was adopted for the study. The firm specific and mactoeconomic variables considered in this study includes firm size, leverage, liquidity' inflation and GDP while insurance firms performance w.rs proxy by retum on asset. It adopts a multivariate panel data analysis for the estimation process. The findings of the study reveals that firm size has a positive and significant effect on performance of insurance companies; leverage has a negative and significant influence on performance of insurance companies; liquidity has positive and insignificant effecr on performance of insurance companies; inflation has a positive and significant influence on performance of insurance companies while GDP has negative and significant effect on performance of insurance companies. The study recommends that government should provide an enabling macroeconomic environment capable of making insurance companies operating in Nigeria increase their performance.
