FEMALE MARGINALIZATION AND UNDER REPRESENTATION IN NAWAL EL SAADAWI’S WOMAN AT POINT ZERO AND CHIMAMANDA NGOZI ADICHIE’S HALF OF A YELLOW SUN

ABSTRACT

This essay examines the concept of Female marginalization and underrepresentation in Nawal El Saadawi's Woman at Point Zero and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Half of a Yellow Sun. It argues against the barriers faced by women in various aspects of society, including limited choices and opportunities, lack of financial independence, and the prevalence of violence and objectification, Using a feminist theory to address the ail treatments endured by women in patriarchy society. Character experiences marginalization due to their gender, which restricts their choices and limit their opportunities. Firdeus, the main character in Woman at Point Zero is forced into prostitution as a means of survival in a patriarchal society where women have little agency or autonomy. Her lack of financial independence is a result of her marginalized status as a woman, as she is denied the same opportunities and resources as men. Adichie's Half of a Yellow Sun, we see the impact of marginalization on women in the context of the Nigerian civil war. Women are subjected to violence and objectification, both by the warring factions and within their own communities. Their voices and experiences are often overlooked or silenced, reinforcing their marginalized status and limiting their agency. female marginalization and underrepresentation stem from deepseated gender inequalities and societal norms that devalue and oppress women.
