SUMMARY
This research work has examined the role of football in the development of the girl child. The study showed that sports generally and football in particular have been of 64 huge economic and social benefits to the girl child in Nigeria. Hence, female football has become one important area of national life in Nigeria. The involvement of every country in football further emphasizes the undebatable fact that football occupies a prime place in world affairs. Hence different countries struggle to dominate others in different sporting activities. This study focus was informed by the low enthusiasm and various barriers or discrimination perceived in the female football development in Nigeria. The study attempted to articulate some of the barrier common to the girl child and the development of girl child in Nigeria. The study examines development of football in Nigeria, selected female footballer in Nigeria, the education, economy and social impact of sports on the development of girl child. The study also examined the financial challenges, religion, and low financial support of government, football system, medical health and many others.
