ABSTRACT
The study determined the fatty acids, total hydrocarbon content and levels of heavy metal composition in Citrullus colocynthis. Citrullus colocynthis was extracted using a seed to oil Extraction Machine. The oil was passed through different types of spectrophotometry machines to get the fatty acids, total hydrocarbon contents, and heavy metal composition. Oleic acid was the most abundant fatty acid present. The total hydrocarbon content gotten was 0.00125mg/kg. The heavy metals present were Iron (Fe), Zinc (Zn), Lead (Pb), Nickel (Ni), Copper (Co), Cobalt (Co), and Chromium (Cr), with their corresponding concentrations of 0.0915 ± 0.065, 4.61 ± 0.06, 0.015 ± 0.005, 0.01 ± 0, 0.0365 ± 0.015, 0.13 ± 0, 0,085 ± 0.05 respectively. In conclusion, Citrullus colocynthis seed oil had a low level of carbon impurities, high level of mono unsaturated fatty acid which makes it safe for consumption.
