ABSTRACT
This study examines family planning as an instrument of population control in Egor Local Government, Benin City, Edo State. The study employed primary dates generated from a survey of 160 randomly selected respondents in Egor LGA. SPSS Version 21 software aided data analysis was used for descriptive analysis. From the data coma the study reviews that’s majority of the respondents (98.1%) are aware of family planning but only 81.2% of the total respondents are actually practicing it.
The study shows that majority of the total respondents strongly agrees that sex preference, peer pressure and religion and agrees to culture, late marriages and illiteracy is a barrier to the full adaptation of family planning in Egor Local Government Area.
The study however recommended that, the time has come for the government at all levels to take a holistic look at the family planning with a view to strengthening the overall strategy of regulating and controlling population growth. The local government should also diversify in its effort to inform the public such as the mobile library service should be established and stocked with materials that will help them to disperse population control information to the public.
