FACTORS PREDISPOSING DEVIANT BEHAVIOUR AMONG IN-SCHOOL ADOLESCENT IN OVIA NORTH EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

The study investigated the factors predisposing deviant behaviour among inschool adolescent in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. To achieve the purpose of the study, five research questions were raised and answered. The sample size for the study was made up of 100 respondents who were randomly selected from each school in the local government. Using the simple random sampling technique, 5 students each were randomly selected from the 20 public secondary schools in the local government, thus making a total sample size of 100 respondents. The instrument used for the data collection is a structured questionnaire titled “Factor Predisposing Deviant Behaviour among in-school Adolescents Questionnaire (FPDBAISAQ)”. The findings from the study include that child-hood trauma, family dynamics, parental involvement, peer pressure and school environment predispose deviant behaviour among in-school adolescent in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The study recommended among others that there should be a collaboration between the government and relevant educational stakeholders to implement policies and regulations that reduce deviant behaviour in secondary schools and society at large.
