ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to establish factors influencing participation of learners in adult literacy programmes. The population of the study consists of all participants in adult educational programmed such as fashion school, computer literacy centre and Olua Primary Adult Education Centre.to guide the study, four research questions were raised which are outlined thus examine the effect of economic factors on participation of learners in adult literacy. To establish the influence of socio-cultural factors on participation of learners in adult literacy. To assess the influence of institutional factors on participation of learners in adult literacy. Descriptive research design was adopted for the study. The population of this study consists of all participants in adult educational programmed such as fashion school, computer literacy centre and Olua Primary Adult Education Centre. The purposive sampling technique was used to select eighty (150) trainees in vocational oriented Non formal education programme in Benin metropolis. The major findings of the study revealed that income is an important factor that can influence participation of learners in adult literacy. It was seen that economic differences can affect the resources that are available in the home. It was shown that the access to internet and reading materials is one of the social factors that influence participation of learners. From the finding of the study, it recommended that Government should make provision for adequate physical facilities to motivate learns in adult literacy. Provision of conducive learning environment to motivate participation of learners in adult literacy.
