ABSTRACT
The study investigated the factors influencing the choice of History as a course offering among secondary school students in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and examined. The research design adopted for this study is the descriptive survey research design. The population for this study was made up of all the 2,001 students in the 20 public senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. The sample size for the study was made up of 100 students representing 5% of the population. The findings from the study include that peer group influence, family background, students’ interest and limited job opportunities constituted the factors influencing the choice of History as a course offering among secondary school students in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. It was therefore recommended among others that the Ministry of Education should integrate real-world examples and case studies into the History curriculum to make it more engaging and relevant to students' interests.
