FACTORS INFLUENCING INDISCIPLINE AMONG THE YOUTHS IN OVIA NORTH EAST LGA IMPLICATIONS FOR NON-FORMAL EDUCATION

ABSTRACT

The study was carried out to determine “factors influencing indiscipline among the youths in Ovia North East LGA implications for non-formal education. Five research questions were raised; What are the primary factors contributing to indiscipline among youths in Ovia North East LGA? How does the lack of non-formal education opportunities exacerbate youth indiscipline in the region? What are the perceptions of the community members regarding the influence of socio-economic factors on youth indiscipline? What non-formal education programmes can be provided to address the indiscipline among the youths in Ovia North East LGA? What role do family dynamics and peer influences play in shaping youth behavior in the areas? The population of the study consisted One hundred and twenty five (125) adult learners which is also the sample respondents for the study. The purposive sampling will be used to select all the population for the study. This study was conducted to assess factors influencing indiscipline among the youths in Ovia North East LGA implications for non-formal education. This study made use of the descriptive survey research design. The findings reveal; Peer influence is a major factor contributing to indiscipline among youths in Ovia North East LGA. Unemployment and lack of meaningful engagement are significant factors contributing to indiscipline among youths in Ovia North East LGA. The following recommendations are made; There should be a promotion of positive role models and mentors, societal norms and values often influence youths through the examples set by adults. There should be a focus on education and skills development, societal norms and values often prioritize traditional roles and responsibilities, which can limit the opportunities available to youths.
