ABSTRACT

This study investigated the factors affecting the efficient management of student's academic records in senior secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. To guide the study four research questions were raised and answered directly. The descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study consisted of 770 teachers in the 30 public secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area. a sample of 60 teachers and 3 principals in 3 public secondary schools was randomly selected for the study. The research instruments used to gather data for the study was a structured questionnaire titled “Factors Affecting the Efficient Management of Student’s Academic Records (FAEMSAR)”. Data collected were analyzed using the descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation). The findings of the study revealed that the factors affecting the efficient management of students' academic record in secondary schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area, Edo state included the level of qualification of personnel in charge of student academic record keeping, the workload of staff in charge of student academic record, Transfer and retirements of officers, The attitude of staff that are in charge of the academic records. The study also revealixed that the sex of staff in charge of record keeping does not affect the efficient management of students' academic records. It was concluded by the study that the level of qualification and experience of the personnel in charge of record keeping affect the efficient management of students’ academic records.
