ABSTRACT
The study examined the factors affecting the effective implementation of adult education programme in Benin prisons. Specifically, the study investigate the usefulness of prison education. Prison Education was introduced 60 ears ago, vet not much has been achieved in this area because of inadequate planning and implementation of the programme. A survey research design was employed for this study, and a structured questionnaire was used to collect data from 145 inmates in Benin prisons.
The result of the study shows that vocational and formal education programmes are done in Benin prisons. 62% of the respondents think, the training is not adequate, while about 38% consider them adequate.
From the research findings, it can be seen that there are available training programme in Benin prison, the infrastructure and equipment are inadequate. It is recommended that government should provide adequate infrastructure and equipment’s in other to ensure the successful implementation of adult education programmes in Benin prisons.
