ABSTRACT
The study investigated the prevalence and pattern of drug abuse among undergraduate students: a case study of the University of Benin, Benin City. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and examined. The sample size for the study was made up of 1500 undergraduate students which were selected from the 15 faculties in the University of Benin, Benin City. The questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. An analysis of data was done using mean statistics and standard deviation. The major finding from the study include that there is low prevalent rate of drug abuse among undergraduate students in University of Benin, Benin City. It was concluded that there is a significant impact of drug abuse on the academic performance of undergraduate students in University of Benin, Benin City. The study recommended among others that the Ministry of Education (Federal and State) in-collaboration with National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) must intensify their antidrug campaigns in order to have a drug- free society with a special focus on students.
