ABSTRACT
This study examines the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing digital preservation strategies in academic libraries. Using a descriptive survey research design, data was collected from 231 library staff across three universities in Edo State, Nigeria. The research identified key digital preservation strategies, including managing activities to ensure continued access to digital materials and protecting information of enduring value. Current digital preservation practices in libraries encompass technology emulation, information migration, encapsulation, and copying or refreshing. Challenges encountered include lack of funding, expertise, and uncertainty about costs. However, adopting digital preservation practices offers opportunities such as improved service rendering, enhanced accessibility to research findings, and easier sharing of research results. The impact of digital preservation includes global service delivery, ensuring access to reliable records, and preserving large information resources. Based on these findings, recommendations include providing regular training for library staff, ensuring adequate funding and expert management, and raising public awareness of library benefits. Suggestions for further studies include exploring students' perceptions of school libraries and assessing public library conditions.
