ABSTRACT
This study will investigated the teaching and implementation of multicultural education programmes through Adult education adult facilitators in Oredo Local Government Area. In order to attain the objectives of the study, four research questions were raised to guide the study. Descriptive survey research design was adopted by the study.
The population consisted of two hundred and eighty eight (288) facilitators in the 11 public senior secondary literacy centres in Oredo local government area The study sample is made up of 165 facilitators selected from the 11 literacy centres in Oredo Local Government Area. The study employed the simple random sampling technique to select 165 facilitators. The research instrument is a questionnaire designed by the researcher. The instrument was validated by the researcher’s supervisor and two other language educators in the Department of Adult and Non-formal Education, of the Faculty of Education, University of Benin, Benin City. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency count percentage, mean and standard deviation (SD).
The study found that Multicultural education has the capability of helping students to learn aboutvaluesshowed byvirtuallyall culturalgroups and also Multicultural education have the capacity to enable students have equitable opportunity tolearnandattain highacademicstandard. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended amongst others: Multiculturaleducationshouldbeintroducedin Oredo Local Government Area. This is attainable when the agency of Adult Education review the content of the curriculum of Adult Education to facilitate diversity and unit in the delivery of the programmes, adult facilitators perceived that the introduction of multicultural literacy centrestosuccessfully meetthe challengesof andbenefitfromthe diversity thatcharacterizes Oredo Local Government Areaandits literacy centres amongst others.
