ABSTRACT
The study examined the relationship between poverty and unemployment in Nigeria. It focuses mainly on poverty rate and unemployment rate in Nigeria using linear regression model to analyze data from the year 1992-2018. Due to missing datas on poverty rate in Nigeria, the results of this study revealed that unemployment rate has a negative insignificant influence on poverty rate in Nigeria. In other words, the negative relationship may be due to chance. This result shows that, so many factors may be the cause of the high rate of poverty in Nigeria. The study recommended that the main variable of the economy which is GDP (Gross Domestic Product), should be boosted to contribute meaningfully to reducing poverty in Nigeria and the federal and state governments should endeavor to convince the citizens to adopt birth control to maintain the population of the country.
