ABSTRACT
Malaria is a deadly illness caused by the plasmodium falciparum parasite, it's a world global burden and is the leading cause of death in the African continent, most of these deaths are children under the age of five. Nigeria suffers the most malaria burden in the world, with poverty and geography contributing to it prevalence. The development of resistance to anti-malarial drugs by the plasmodium falciparum parasite is one of the greatest threat to malaria eradication in malaria endemic areas. Malaria resistance contributes to the mortality and morbidity of the disease and is a major contributor to the spread of the disease as well as it reemergence in areas where the disease has been eradicated. Changes in blood parameters are already a well known effect of malaria infection, the primary purpose of this research is to find evidemce on the emerging artemeter and lumenfantrine (lonart) resistant malaria parasite in inhabitants of Benin metropolis. Blood samples gotten from a hundred patients were analysed and haematological parameters were shown to be significantly impacted by malaria falciparum. Patients result were analysed with the student t-test from the statistical packages for aocial sciences with a 95% level of vonfidence (p<0.05). Before treatment, PCV and WBC levels were significantly low compared to control . However after treatment with quinine, no significant difference was found in RBC count compared to the control although WBC count still remained significantly low.
