ABSTRACT
Aluminum is frequently accessible to animal and human populations to the extent that intoxications may occur. The brain is the organ most studied in Aluminum toxicity. Within the brain, Aluminum-induced damage in the hippocampus was considered unsafe to humans after the discovery of increased levels of Aluminum in brain tissues of patients with encephalopathy, having been exposed to Aluminum accumulation through dialysis. The guava (Psidium guajava) belonging to the Myrtaceae family, is a very unique and traditional plant which is grown due to its diverse medicinal and nutritive properties. It is also revealed to be a potential source of natural antioxidant. Hence, this study was designed to investigate the possible therapeutic effects of Psidium Guajava (GV) on aluminium-induced neurotoxicity in adult Wistar rats. After purchase and acclimatization, the adult Wistar rats were weighed and divided into six equal groups (control and experimental groups). Group A (Control) was administered 1 ml dH2O/day. Group B (Al) was administered 100 mg/kg body weight (BW) of Al only. Group C (Al + GV1) was administered 200mg/kg BW/day of aqueous GV leaf extract and 100 mg/kg BW of Al. Group D (Al + GV2) was administered 400 mg/kg BW of aqueous GV leaf extract and 100 mg/kg BW of Al.
