Abstract
Malaria is known to be a vector borne disease triggered by protozoan parasite termed plasmodium through which it is transmitted by female anopheles mosquito. The folklore reports indicated that, the whole part of Senna siamea are utilized in the management and treatment of numerous diseases which includes; Malaria a morbimortality diseases, typhoid, jaundice, abdominal pain, menstrual pain, constipation, hypertension and insomnia, liver disease, diabetes, tooth ache, anemia, asthma, and as an antidote for snakes and scorpion. This study evaluates antimalarial effect of Senna siamea leaves extract on experimental animals. This study made used of established protocol with modifications, the antimalarial property of Senna siamea in Swiss mice induced with plasmodium berghei suppressive indexes. Results of this study elicited significant reduction (p > 0.05) in parasitaemia of the suppressive study at graded doses (25, 50 and 100 mg/kg), elicited antimalarial efficacy when compared with untreated control. In conclusion, Senna siamea leaves extract exhibited suppressive and therapeutic effects of Senna siamea methanol extract.
