ABSTRACT

A trial was carried out for eight weeks to investigate the effect of some phytogenic additives (turmeric, cinnamon, and cloves) in broiler chickens on the blood serum metabolite with a total of one hundred and twenty (120) broiler chicks. The birds were then randomly placed to six different pens and were given six different oral treatments (Tr1 for cinnamon, Tr2 for turmeric,  Tr3 for cloves, Tr4 for turmeric and cloves, Tr5 for turmeric and cinnamon and Tr6 for control)and fed ad libitum without the additives, with each treatment pen having a total of 20 birds each. After the experiment was carried out, blood was collected and taken for analysis. The experiment was laid out in a completely randomdesign with six treatments (Tr1, Tr2. TR3, Tr4, Tr5, Tr6). Blood were collected from three birds each per replicate to determine the serum biochemical response. The result obtained showed the effect of T1 (cinnamon), T2 (turmeric), T3 (cloves), T4 (turmeric and cloves), T5 (turmeric and cinnamon), T6 (control) administered to broiler chicken in Table 4.1. Table 4.1 revealed the effect of the treatment on the liver of the broiler chicken, there is no significant difference (p>0.05) in Alkaline Phosphate, Aspartate Aminotransferase, Total Bilirubin and Conjugate Bilirubin, but there was significant difference (p<0.05) in Alanine aminotransferase. Meanwhile in Table 4.2, it is evident that the different phytogenic spice treatments had minimal impact on the blood protein parameters in broiler chickens. The results revealed no significant differences (p>0.05) in total protein, albumin, or globulin levels among the treatment groups. TB and CB levels remained relatively stable across all treatment groups. This indicates that the administration of various phytogenic additives did not induce substantial alterations in the blood protein profiles of the broiler chickens compared to the control group.
