ABSTRACT
Cowpea is an important food grain legume in Nigeria. Cowpea has affinity for pesticides. The objective of this study was to evaluate the growth of eleven cowpea varieties without pesticide in the screen house in Benin City. The pot experiment was carried out in the screen house, Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Benin. Eleven cowpea varieties were used for the experiment. The study was conducted using CRD (Completely Randomized Design) with (Cowpea varieties) as treatments replicated three times. The growth variables evaluated were plant height, leaf length, leaf width, and leaf area. Results showed that there was a significant difference in the leaf width. S7, had the widest leaf width. On the other hand, leaf area, leaf length, and plant height were not significant among the variables. It was concluded that Cowpea can be grown without pesticides in a controlled environment in Benin City.
