ABSTRACT
In a public-private partnership (PPP), private companies work with government agencies to provide a public good or service. Public-private partnerships (PPPs) are long-term contracts between one private firm or a collection of companies and the government (the Public-Sector Client) to manage all phases of an infrastructure project, from planning to construction to maintenance to finance (the Private Entity). The research is meant to evaluate the importance of quantity surveyors in public-private partnerships. Fifty questionnaires were sent out, and 88.00% of them were filled out and returned. The Mean Item Score (MIS) was used to rate the amount of engagement of quantity surveyors in PPP projects and the variables influencing their participation in PPP project procurement. The result of the analysis showed that “Cost Planning” with Mean score “4.37” was the highest ranked role of quantity surveyors in PPP Projects. This is followed by “Cost modelling”, “Estimating” and “Whole life cycle costing” ranked 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. The least ranked role is the “Development Appraisal” ranked 9th.The study therefore recommends the need for QS to improve his role in Development Appraisal in PPP projects.
