ABSTRACT

This study evaluates the health benefits of physical activity and sports participation among students of the Human Kinetics and Sports (HKS) department at the University of Benin. Recognizing the critical role of physical activity in promoting overall well-being, this research aims to quantify its impact on the physical and mental health of university students. The sample comprised 60 participants, including who were present during the study period. Data collection utilized a researcher-made instrument titled "The Health Benefits of Physical Activity and Sports on Students in the University of Benin" (HBPASSUB), which demonstrated a reliability coefficient of 0.987. Preliminary findings indicate significant improvements in physical health parameters and reductions in stress and anxiety levels among students actively engaged in sports and regular physical activities. These results underscore the importance of incorporating structured physical activity programs within academic institutions to enhance student health and well-being. Analysis of the data, employing a criterion mean of 2.50, indicated that sports and physical activity positively influence the health of Human Kinetics and Sports Science students in the University of Benin. However, they encounter some constraints that limit their participation in physical activities and sports, such as lack of proper time balancing, and finances.
