Ethno-religious conflicts and security in Nigeria

ABSTRACT

This study was aimed at x-raying the relationship between ethno-religious conflicts and security in Nigeria, using the social identity and social contact theories. Chapter one embodies the statement of the problem and states the gab that exists in the literature on ethno religious conflicts and national security in Nigeria. The chapter also presented the significance of the study which includes; examining Christians – Muslims responses on the causes of ethno religious conflicts, its effects, media issues, as well as the need for state policing in the fight against ethno-religious conflicts. The four (4) hypotheses generated for the study were stated in this chapter. It also highlighted the scope and limitations of the study. Finally, the major concepts like ethnicity, religion and conflict were conceptualized.
