ABSTRACTS
In the last few years, Nigeria has been roundly criticized and even scorned by many people and countries around the world for not having the right morals and values. This seems to be because of a lack of value orientation and good morals. Nigeria is the biggest black nation in the world and is one of the richest countries in Africa. Unfortunately, this wealth is often squandered. This works looks into the Nigerian system of government and how corruption is eating away at the system and the moral values it upholds. This work also aims to explore the ethical challenges facing Nigerian politics and the role that corruption plays in propagating these issues. We will begin by defining the terms ethics and corruption using a philosophical lens, emphasizing how these concepts relate to politics. It will then evaluate the ethical challenges in Nigerian politics and how corruption has become a systemic issue in the country. In this work we will also explore the intersection between ethics, corruption, and democracy in Nigeria, emphasizing the impact of corruption on democratic institutions and citizens' participation. In this work we will also evaluate the effectiveness of current measures aimed at fighting graft in Nigerian politics, such as the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and how political leaders, civil society organizations, and the public participate in these initiatives. The perspectives of different stakeholders will be examined, including citizens, government officials, press, NGOs, and human rights advocates, to identify the values and interests behind the ethical norms and actions. The conclusion is that in order for Nigeria to be in good standing with the rest of the world, morality should be the top priority, because if the government and people are corrupt, it can't be a democracy that listens to its people. The paper also argues that if the government institutions are properly organized and strengthened, it will help fight and stop corruption.
