ABSTRACT
The main purpose of this study was to assess Tax payers ethical tax Behaviour and tax compliance in the Nigerian financial services sector. It assesses the concept of tax evasion and tax avoidance,examines the challenges of the Nigerian financial services sector and also profers some solutions. It also aims to look into the impact of ethical tax Behaviour on the faithful representation of financial statement, timely filling of tax returns and payments of taxes .
The study made use of three concepts relating to ethical tax Behaviour– faithful representation of financial services, timely filling of tax returns and payments of taxes . Research questions were raised, hypothesis was formulated and review of related literature was made. In order to gather the needed data for this study, a well structured questionnaire designed in likert 5 point scale was administered on the selected money deposit banks in the Nigerian financial services sector.The stated hypothesis was tested using the regression analysis at 5% level of significance. Findings revealed that ethical tax Behaviour(Faithful representation of financial statement, timely filling of tax returns and payments of taxes) has a positive impact on the level of tax compliance in the Nigerian financial services sector .
This study therefore concluded that ethical behavior positively affects the faithful presentation of financial statements, the timely filing of tax returns, and the payment of taxes.
