ABSTRACT

In land surveying, it's crucial to have precise measurements. However, instrument error and environmental conditions can impact accuracy. To address this issue, a calibration base can be used as a reference point to check and adjust surveying instruments, leading to better accuracy and reduced errors. Unfortunately, many surveying firms lack a calibration base, which can result in mistakes and inefficiencies. This study aimed to develop a cost-effective and efficient plan for creating a calibration base. The methodology involved the use of CORS Geosystems and dual-frequency GNSS receivers for data acquisition, with subsequent adjustment of observations to determine the final coordinates of the reference points. The results showed that creating a calibration base can significantly improve the accuracy and efficiency of land surveying work. Our proposed plan offers a practical and feasible approach for firms looking to establish their own calibration base. Differences between the observed and measured results were corrected using least square adjustment. The calibration base was successfully established for use within the University of Benin campus. We recommend that the calibration base be used for survey equipment calibration.
