ABSTRACT
The concept of truth is a rich and multifaceted topic that has been the subject of extensive philosophical, theological, and cultural exploration. At its core, truth is often understood as the correspondence between a statement or belief and reality, with attributes such as correspondence, objectivity, and universality. However, truth also has its limitations, including subjectivity, incompleteness, and interpretation. These attributes and limitations shape our understanding of truth and influence its significance in different cultural contexts. The cultural significance of truth is particularly evident in the case of the Urhobo people of Nigeria. Within Urhobo culture, truth is deeply intertwined with values, traditions, and social norms. It is highly valued and associated with honesty, integrity, and moral uprightness. The Urhobo people place a strong emphasis on the importance of speaking the truth and being honest in their interactions with others. Truthfulness is seen as a virtue and is closely linked to concepts of honor and respect within the community. The cultural expressions and traditions of the Urhobo people, including their language, proverbs, and oral traditions, serve to reinforce the importance of truth within their society, shaping the moral fabric of their community.
