ABSTRACT
This is a study done on the ERADICATION OF FAKE NEWS ON SOCIAL MEDIA: POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS AND PROSPECTS. In digital age, the rampant proliferation of fake news on social media has become a pressing concern. This study aims to find out the prevalence of fake news on social media, investigate the effects of the increasing fake news dissemination on social media and identify possible solutions to the problem of fake news on social media. Through a survey based research, conducted with the purposive sampling technique and analysed with tables using simple percentage frequency, the prevalence of fake news and its adverse effects on social media are investigated. Findings indicate a high incidence of fake news dissemination on social media with adverse implications to the society. Therefore, the study concludes that the prevalence of fake news on social media is notably high and the increasing spread of fake news on social media has numerous detrimental effects on society. The study recommended that media organisations should spread robust awareness campaigns to discourage the dissemination of fake news, with proper regulation and accreditation of media channels. Also, educating social media content users on spotting fake news and reporting news channels for spreading fake news to the appropriate authorities can potentially eliminate the propagation of fake news on social media.
