ABSTRACT
This study investigates the impact of sand mining on groundwater quality in the Idunmwowina region of Ovia North East, Edo State, Nigeria. A total of fifteen (15) groundwater samples were analyzed to assess various parameters, including pH, electrical conductivity (EC) with a mean value of , total dissolved solids (TDS), turbidity, sulfates, nitrates, chlorides, alkalinity, and bicarbonates. The results indicate that the groundwater in the region is slightly acidic with a mean pH of 5.61. Electrical Conductivity (EC) with mean value of 53.27, TDS, NO3. SO4 they meet the WHO standard. The turbidity level was low, indicating relatively clear water, but occasional disturbances were observed due to mining activities. These findings underscore the need for sustainable sand mining practices and consistent monitoring to mitigate adverse impacts on groundwater quality.
