ABSTRACT

The study examines the impact entrepreneurship on employment generation in Nigeria. Specifically, the study examines the difference between entrepreneurship development (cost of doing business) and employment generation in Nigeria, and the impact of entrepreneurship development (entrepreneurship training) on employment generation in Nigeria. The researcher used questionnaires for the purpose of obtaining the desired result. The statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 25 was used in the analysis of the data. The research questions were answered using means and standard deviations including their frequencies. Regression was used to test for hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level of significance. The study finds that poor access to credit, high interest rate, different kinds of illegal charges, production cost is a major hindrance for entrepreneurs in creating employment opportunities. Also, entrepreneurship development training centers do not have the necessary facilities and infrastructure that would make the centers function effectively, entrepreneurship trainees in training centers and institutions are not introduced to successful small enterprises and are not taught the rudimentary and practical entrepreneurial attitudes which are the essential components in the critical formative years of trainees. The study recommends that Nigeria government should genuinely recognize the essence of entrepreneurship training, job creation and innovation to unemployment reduction by providing the enabling environment for the youths to be gainful empowered, unemployed youths should be strengthened to embrace entrepreneurship devoid the imitation and vocational inclinations, adequate financial, physical and human resources should be provided by various stakeholders not only for potential but also for existing entrepreneurs, government should strive to reduce the cost of doing business in Nigeria, to the benefit of both entrepreneurial firms and other small businesses.
