ABSTRACT
The concept of abortion seems very western and alien to African practices, some have even argued that the concept of abortion is as a result of colonialization. The argument is that Africans always want children and cannot in themselves think of abortion without any external influence. This is actually not true because many of our mothers didn’t want to have the number of children they had, if they had the opportunity to make sure that didn’t happen they would have jumped on it. Abortion only seems like a really bad idea when the thought that the embryo or fetus as a person comes in. The inability of western ethics to settle the dispute on abortion has prompted this work to argue that the concept of Eniyan in Yoruba ontology should be further researched into and uses as an alternative solution to the western problem of abortion. Hence, this work adopts critical analysis method to argue that abortion until a particular stage in pregnancy isn’t murder and cannot be morally wrong.
