ABSTRACT

This study was intended to evaluate the impact of election rigging on political instability in Nigeria. This study was guided by the following objectives; To examine the importance of free and Fair elections for political stability; To investigate relationship between election rigging and subsequent political instability. To examine the causes of election rigging in Nigeria; To explore existing issues on election rigging, political instability in previous Nigeria elections up to the fourth republic; To propose strategies to mitigate election rigging, consider technological advancements and public awareness campaigns; To examine how to eradicate election rigging in Nigeria;. The study employed the descriptive and explanatory design; questionnaires in addition to library research were applied in order to collect data. Primary and secondary data sources were used and data was analyzed using the correlation statistical tool at which was presented in frequency tables and percentages. The respondents under the study were selected citizens of Nigeria who were active participants in the recent 2023 general elections in Nigeria. The study findings revealed that election rigging in Nigeria has a significant impact on political instability in Nigeria.
