EFFECTS OF ZHIDOVUDLNE ON THE CEREBELLUM, OF ADULT WISTAR RAT

SUMMARY

Consumption of high fat glucose diet has steadily increased over the past 30 years in parallel to the growth of the obesity/metabolic syndrome epidemic. Glucose is a highly lipogenic sugar that has intense metabolic effects. Glucose becomes a major constituent of our modern diet. Excess consumption of glucose is an important contributor to the metabolic syndrome (Ahangarpour et al., 2012). Metabolic syndrome is a well-established risk factor for diabetes, cardiovascular disease and mortality. It has been postulated that increased catabolism of glucose can accelerate free radical production similar to glucose and impairs the free radical defense system leading to oxidative stress. This research was conducted to evaluate the therapeutic potential of date palm extract on fasting blood glucose of albino rats fed on high glucose Rich diet. High-glucose diet on figure 4.1; shows that there were significant increases in the body weight changes when compared to the control. This is associated with characteristic body weight gain. This might be due to increased muscle gain and possibly gain of tissue proteins which is similar to the previous observations . 50,51 These changes however give the impression that the P. dactylifera were generally well tolerated leading to an increase in appetite with more food being 61 consumed and giving credence to the claim that some plant extract juice increase appetite (1). The findings from this study is also in agreement with the earlier reports of Aniagu and colleagues (8) and as with Nature Cure bitters, the results are suggestive that the P. dactylifera extract did not possibly cause any drastic alterations in the carbohydrate, protein or fat metabolism in such a way as to prevent a weight gain expected of animals that are continually supplied with food and water ad libitum, (8).
