ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to evaluate agro-based wastes as carriers of biological control agent Trichoderma spp. The selected waste was maize husk. The objective of the study was to determine the growth of Trichoderma spp. on the substrate at varying levels of moisture and pH. The design of the experiment was Completely Randomized Design and parameters measured were on growth rate, enzymatic activity and mycelia weight of Trichoderma. The growth rate was evaluated at moisture levels of 0ml (control), 10ml, 15ml, 20ml, and 25ml and the enzyme activity was evaluated at moisture levels of 0ml (control), 1ml, 2ml, 3ml, and 4ml of the substrate content. The pH was varied at pH 4, pH 7, pH 9 and pH 8.5 (control). Trichoderma spp. was observed to have the highest growth rate (2.95cm) of the maize husks at 0ml (control) moisture level at day 11 and at pH 9 with a value of 1.72cm at day 5. Enzyme activity was highest (0.21µg) at 0ml of moisture level while mycelia weight of 0.09g was highest growth at 1ml of moisture levels.
