ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to study the Effects of Stress on Students' Effective Learning after The Strike (2019-2023), four(4) research questions were raised for the study. The study adopted survey research design. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire; it was built around the research question by the researcher and validated by the researcher’s supervisor. Data collected were analyzed using frequency count, percentages. Further research was also made in chapter two of the study to explain the Impact of Prolonged Strikes on Students' Health, Relationship between stress and academic performance, Cognitive effects of heightened stress levels, Impact on retention and application of knowledge, Coping Mechanisms Employed by Students during Strikes, Socio-Economic Factors Amplifying Stress Effects, Educational Policies and Interventions Addressing Stress. The presentation of result, coupled with insights gleaned from Nigerian students, reveals the multifaceted impacts of prolonged strike-induced stress on mental health, academic performance, coping mechanisms, and the exacerbation of stress by socio economic factors. The findings underscore the urgent need for comprehensive interventions to mitigate the adverse effects of academic disruptions and support students in navigating the challenges posed by strike-induced stress. Educational institutions should prioritize the establishment of robust mental health support services to provide students with accessible counseling, therapy, and psychological resources. These services should be tailored to address the unique stressors exacerbated by academic disruptions.Educational stakeholders should actively promote stress management and coping strategies among students through awareness campaigns, workshops, and resilience-building programs. Emphasizing self-care practices, time management techniques, and healthy coping mechanisms can empower students to navigate stress effectively. Institutions should develop and implement academic resilience programs aimed at equipping students with the skills and resources necessary to thrive amidst academic disruptions. These programs should focus on bolstering academic performance, enhancing information retention, and fostering adaptability in dynamic learning environments.Policymakers and educational institutions must prioritize efforts to address socio-economic disparities that exacerbate stress levels among students. This includes providing financial assistance, housing support, and equitable access to resources such as technology and internet connectivity.
