ABSTRACT
This study investigates the impact of modern technologies on accounting practices, particularly in enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and the strategic role of accounting departments within organizations. The research also explores the challenges faced by accounting professionals in integrating new technologies into their operations and the strategies organizations employ to mitigate these challenges. Through a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, data was collected from 100 accounting professionals, managers, and IT specialists across various industries in Nigeria. The findings highlight that modern technologies significantly improve the efficiency of financial reporting, with automation and faster data processing being key drivers. However, challenges such as inadequate training, resistance to change, and high integration costs persist. Despite these challenges, the study reveals that technology is reshaping the role of accountants, allowing them to transition from traditional bookkeeping tasks to more strategic decision-making roles. Additionally, data security and privacy remain a top concern, with organizations adopting strategies like encryption and regular security audits to safeguard financial data. Ultimately, this study underscores the transformative potential of technology in accounting, emphasizing the need for continuous investment in training, fostering a culture of innovation, and ensuring robust security measures to fully realize the benefits of technological advancements
