SUMMARY
Glutathione and lipid peroxidation levels change in response to carcinogenesis and serves as a suitable means of diagnosis in cancer proliferation. Here we examined the effect of hydro ethanol extract on lipid peroxidation and glutathione levels. Group 1 served as the control, group 2 was the negative control, group 3 was treated with the standard drug Xeloda, group 4 and 5 was the extract treated groups. Upon administering spondias mombin extract to the 1, 2 dimethylhydrazine(DMH) induced rats, there was an observable increase in glutathione levels as well as a decrease in lipid peroxidation levels. This study identified that Spondias mombin shows remarkable chemo preventive targets in mediating apoptosis in the DMH induced wistar rat colon carcinogenesis.
