ABSTRACT

This study investigates the effect of temperature on the compressive strength of concrete using sawdust ash as an admixture. Sawdust ash is a waste product from the wood industry, and it has potential as a supplementary cementitious material in concrete. However, the effect of temperature on the compressive strength of concrete using sawdust ash as an admixture has not been well-documented. This study aims to fill this gap in knowledge. Concrete specimens were prepared without and with sawdust ash and cured at different temperatures (200°C, 400°C, and 600°C). The compressive strength of the concrete specimens was tested at 7 days, 14 days, 21 days and 28 days for both sets of concrete specimen. The results of this study showed that the compressive strength of concrete decreased with increasing temperature. The results indicated that the incorporation of sawdust ash in concrete slightly improved its compressive strength. The highest compressive strength was observed for samples containing sawdust ash cured at 200°C, 400°C, and 600°C. However, the improvement in compressive strength was not significant and was comparable to that of plain concrete. The results suggest that sawdust ash can be used as an admixture in concrete, contributing to the sustainability of concrete production. Further research is recommended to explore the long-term performance and other properties of concrete incorporating sawdust ash.
