ABSTRACT
Natural products have attracted more attention in recent years for their possible therapeutic benefits, particularly when it comes to reducing inflammation and oxidative stress.This work uses a carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced toxicity model to examine the effects of Tetrapleura tetraptera ethanol extract on important inflammatory markers, such as transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-1) and matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) and matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2). A total of twenty five Wistar rats where used, the Wister rats were separated into five groups having a maximum amount of five Wister rats per cage, the animals were weighed on a weigh balance to determine their various body weights, the rats in cage 3,4,5, where induced with ccl4 while cage 1 was only induced with olive oil, absolute ethanol extract of Aridan (tetraplueura tetrapetra) was administered to the Wister rats in cage 5 and 6 the rats in cage 3 where administered sylimarin, this was the ( the positive control group) and this was also done for 14 days, where the rats in cage 1( the normal control group) was administered olive oil, the cage two rat( the negative control group) where not treated. The Tetrapleura tetraptera ethanol extract is administered to laboratory rats after the CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity. To measure the levels of TGF-, MMP-1, and MMP-2 in serum and tissue samples, biochemical and molecular biology methods such enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), Western blotting, and real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used.There was a significant reduction in these inflammatory markers, TGF-β1 ,MMP1, MMP2 when compared to the negative control (p< 0.05) The results of this study may offer important insights into the Tetrapleura tetraptera's potential therapeutic advantages in reducing tissue damage and inflammation, opening up a promising new area for further study in the area of natural product-based medicine.
