EFFECTS OF DIETARY OYSTER MUSHROOM ON THE GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF AFRICAN CATFISH POST JUVENILES

ABSTRACT

This study was set up to assess the growth performance of Clarias gariepinus fed with fed diets supplemented with Oyster mushroom. Five (5) experimental diets were prepared, Diet 1 being the control diet without mushroom meal and Diet 2,3,4 and 5 being the experimental diets with 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0% and 2.5% inclusion levels respectively. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD). Each tank was stocked with 63 post fingerlings each and fed twice daily to satiation with the prepared feed. Water quality parameters (pH, Ammonia, and temperature) was monitored, growth parameters and feed consumed were measured every 3weeks. The experiment lasted 9wks after which the results were analysed using a one way Analysis of variance at 5% probability.
