ABSTRACT
The spice ginger, also known as Zingiber officinale, is used in food and medicine all throughout the world. Numerous research have demonstrated that ginger has no negative side effects and no mortality increase when consumed by both people and animals (Kwon et al., 2017). A growing body of research suggests that giving smokers ginger will improve their RBC counts and hemoglobin levels (Aeschbach et al., 2017). The mechanism of ginger supplementation on adult male wistar rats' PCV and RBC, however, has received scant research. Thus, the need for this study. The purpose of this study was to look at how zingiber officinale affected the PCV and RBC in adult male Wistar rats.. For this investigation, 20 mature male Wistar were used. Five rats were randomly divided into four groups, group A serving as the control group and the other three as test groups. Normal rat food and water were given to Group A (the control group), whereas Groups B, C, and D were given normal rat food and water that had been combined with ginger at doses of 100, 300, and 500 mg/kg, respectively. Also noted were the body weights at the beginning and end. This study's data were collected using graph pad prism version 8.0. According to the findings, Zingiber officinale significantly decreased RBC and HCT at modest doses. At medium and high levels of supplementation, there was a small improvement in RBC and HCT compared to control. At medium and high doses, this study likewise showed a significant decrease in final body weight compared to initial body weight. As a result, the present study demonstrated that the effect of ginger supplementation on RBC and PCV as well as body weight in adult male Wistar rats is dose dependent and that there is a considerable reduction at low doses when compared to the control. RBC and PCV levels did, however, slightly rise at the medium and high doses. For a deeper understanding of how ginger affects whole blood quality, similar research should be conducted with more participants and a longer study duration.
