ABSTRACT
Environmental pollution due to heavy metal exposure poses significant health risks to both humans and animals. Cadmium, a persistent heavy metal, is known to induce oxidative stress and disrupt various physiological processes in living organisms. The study investigated the potential protective effect of the aqueous extract of Cyperus esculentus on cardiac health in cadmium-induced Wisar rats. The experiment involved the induction of cadmium toxicity by administering cadmium chloride CdCl2, followed by the administration of the aqueous extract of Cyperus esculentus as a potential protective agent. The total protein concentration of heart tissues and LDH levels were assessed using biochemical assays. The results of this study revealed that the aqueous extract of Cyperus esculentus exhibited a significant influence on both total protein and LDH levels in the heart of cadmium-induced rats. These results suggest a potential protective role of Cyperus esculentus against the adverse effects of cadmium toxicity on cardiac biomarkers. This research contributes valuable insights into the therapeutic potential of natural extracts in mitigating the impact of heavy metal-induced cardiac stress, emphasizing the importance of further investigation into Cyperus esculentus as a potential cardioprotective agent.
