ABSTRACT
This study was designed to examine the effect of 6-weeks strength training on the grip strength of Ezomo Junior Secondary School Students.
The scope of this study was the students of Junior Secondary School Students of the Ezomo Secondary School. The sample for this study was forty Two (42) students. Purposive random sampling was used to select the sample size. The data was collected with the aid of Camry hand dynamometer. The validity of the instrument was established and determined through face validity. To determine the reliability of the instrument, Interater reliability test was employed. Data collected were analyzed using frequency counts, percentage and mean.
The result of the study showed that there was an influence of strength training on the crush, hook and pinch grip of the participants. It was concluded that crush grip, hook grip and pinch grip had a significant effect on the grip strength. Based on the findings, it was recommended that: every school curriculum should incorporate a period of strength training on a weekly basis, Instructor should be made available for the training of preadolescent and adolescent and any sign of illness or injury from strength training should be evaluated fully before allowing resumption of the exercise program, and also that proper techniques and strict supervision by a qualified instructor should be considered.
