ABSTRACT
The study dealt on the effect of school environment on students’ academic performance in public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and answered. The sample size for the study was made up of one hundred and twenty (120) respondents randomly selected from the 6 public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. The descriptive survey research design was adopted in carrying out the study. An analysis of data was done using mean and standard deviation. The findings from the study include that there is a significant influence of school environment on students’ participation in classroom activities in public secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. It was concluded that that there is a significant impact of school environment on students’ academic performance in secondary schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The study recommended among others that the government and school management should prioritize the construction and renovation of classrooms, libraries, and laboratories to create conducive learning environments. Adequate seating arrangements, proper ventilation, and modern learning facilities should also be provided.
