ABSTRACT
This study was conducted between April and July 2023 in the screen house of the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Benin, with the aim of assessing the impact of top soil and poultry manure potting mixtures, sowing depths, and watering regime on the growth of soursop (Annona muricata) seedlings. The study involved three top soil and poultry manure potting mixtures (Top soil (TS) + Poultry manure (PM) in the ratio 1:1, 1:2 and 2:1), three sowing depth (2, 4 and 6cm) and three watering regimes (everyday, once in 3 days and once in 5 days) laid out in 3×3×3 factorial arrangement fitted into a completely randomized design (CRD) with three replications. Data were collected on vegetative growth (plant height, stem girth, number of leaves and leaf area) in-situ on two weekly interval. Top soil and poultry manure potting mixtures, sowing depth and watering regime significantly (P< 0.05) influenced vegetative growth of soursop seedlings. Soursop seed sown in TS + PM 2:1 at 2cm depth and irrigated daily had the tallest plants (27.00cm), thickest stem (0.75cm), highest number of leaves (12 per plant) and largest leaf area (479.9cm2 ). Therefore, top soil and poultry manure potting mixture of 2:1, a sowing depth of 2cm and watering regime of once everyday are suggested for soursop seedling producing farmers.
