ABSTRACT

Effect of different planting depth and potting media on growth of soursop (Annona muricata) was studied. Freshly harvested seeds of soursop were germinated in polypots under greenhouse conditions using the screen house of the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. The seedlings were soaked in water for 24 hours before sowing to facilitate easy germination and to break dormancy. Cow dung manure (cd), poultry manure (pm), were added in varying ratio (TS+CD 1:1, TS+CD 2:1, TS+PM 1:1, TS+PM 2:1) and compositions with soil. Physical and chemical characteristics of different media combination were studied. Data was collected on a biweekly basis at 2 weeks after emergence of the seedlings for plant growth parameters. There was no significant difference between the planting depth and potting media used in the growth of seedlings. However, TS+CD 1:1 and 2cm emerged with the highest value showing that soursop seeds can germinate and grow when sown between 2 cm - 6.
