ABSTRACT
The leaves, wood, and stem back of the Simarouba glauca are the portions that are reportedly most frequently used. In this project study, we made use of the leaves. The study focused on the effect of methanol leaf extract of Simarouba glauca on antioxidant biomarkers in male Wistar rats. The toxicological inquest of Simarouba glauca was evaluated. A total of thirty male Wistar rats were used; divided into six groups of five rats each, excluding the control. Test rats were given Simarouba glauca extract at 125, 250, 500, 750, and 1000 mg/kg body weight respectively, daily for twenty-eight (28) days. At the end of the study, the rats were fasted overnight and sacrificed and biochemical indicators were evaluated. Results showed a significant increase (p ˂ 0.05) in GSH and a decrease in MDA respectively at all doses. There was no significant difference in the expression of GPx, Catalase, and SOD concentration.
