ABSTRACT
Excess consumption of fructose is an important contributor to the metabolic syndrome which consists of insulin resistance, hyperglycemia, hypertension, oxidative stress and cardiovascular disease risk. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of medium dose Pax herbal bitters on glucose metabolism and oxidation stress in albino rats fed high fructose diet. 20 albino rats randomly divided in four groups of five rats each with average height of each group being 175g used. The rats are fed ad-libitun with clean tap water. During the entire 8 week course of this study. A basal diet of modified standard pelleted mash was given daily to the rats by the control group one (1) while the fructose diet was given the remaining three groups. A combined drugs of lisinophil and atorvastatin was also administered to the group three rats. While the medium dose (1100mg) of the rats body weight of the paxherbal bitters was also administered to the rats in group four. Using standard method the weekly weight of the rats, their daily feed consumption, food efficiency, relative organ weight of the heart and Aorta, kidney and liver, their fasting blood sugar and antioxidant status was also done. The data was analyzed using the paired sample student test and Duncan's multiply test anova, of the SPSS V-24-A P value of less than 0.05(p<0.05) was accepted to be statistically significant. The result of the study reveal that the pax herbal bitters prevented the development of insulin resistance and oxidative stress. The bitters were as effective as lisinophil and atorvastatin in preventing the feature characteristic of insulin resistance and oxidative stress.
